There are a lot of traditions that go into the ceremony and reception at a Goan wedding. Goa, on the other hand, prides itself on the culture and tradition and every aspect of them. However, in this day and age, it seems that most of the weddings celebrated in the state are done without most of the traditions.
Over the years Goa has been a well known wedding destination wedding location visited by many from near and far. A typical wedding in Goa has a number of traditions that have been a part of the community for centuries for ages! Here is a list of what your wedding might be missing out of Roce - This is a tradition that the bride, and groom, usually celebrate separately with their entourage. After prayers, the men or women are taken, and the singing commences, they are then bathed with a bunch of kitchen cooking items. The main ingredient being coconut milk, along with household ingredients. Bachelor / bachelorette party - not a major tradition in Goa but something that has come about thanks to the western influence. Singles like to spend the last couple of days chilling at a bar or club with some of their closest peeps. There are other traditions that are carried out during the wedding as well The Goan wedding song One of the favorites played at all Goan weddings, calls for the bride and groom to dance a song surrounded by all their guests. The guests form two circles with the men in the outer one and the women in the inner one and sway in opposite directions. Collection of Konkani songs There are a bunch of Konkani songs that are played and sung by the band during the wedding. Each one of them has their own dance steps that the crowd always seems to know. These are a few Goan traditions followed at most Goan weddings. Although today, many of them are being missed or skipped.
